After an early brekkie – with the Israeli’s hogging the toaster, we met Sally at 7am in the lobby. Off to the airport.
Traffic here is crazy, no one seems to follow any rules, scooters everywhere going in any direction regardless, no helmets are worn and kids are randomly perched on the back or wherever, today covered in ponchos.
Got to the airport in good time. Airport was really nice and clean with lots of affordable coffee and convenience shops etc.
We boarded on time, settled in and five minutes after our departure time, we were then told to get all our belongings and go back (by bus) to the terminal as the weather in Shanghai was bad and we couldn’t fly.
Two hours later (after a free lunch from the airline), we were herded back onto buses to the plane and departed for Shanghai. Upon arrival in fog and rain, we were bused for 15 minutes to the terminal, goodness knows why they parked so far away!
Our guide for Shanghai, Nancy met us and took us to the Maglev train, where some 8 minutes later we arrived to meet our driver for journey to the hotel.
The Maglev is currently the fastest train in the world – we attained a speed of 301km/h, (187mph).
View – or lack thereof – on our drive to the hotel
Hot pot buffet dinner in the hotel – yum!
Looks like a good time minus the delays in air travel.
Most exciting!
An occasional hard bed is a small price to pay for such an adventure.
But we are enjoying it without the discomfort. Thanks for the descriptions.
The food looks fun, too.
