Day 35 Siem Reap, Cambodia to Delhi, India

Leisurely morning with a chance to sleep in and then take our time over breakfast. John went to get the laundry that he’d dropped off the previous afternoon.  Haven’t had to use hotel laundry yet, so far have managed to find local women who do a great job, quickly and cheaply.  This one only cost $5 for 10lbs of dirty clothes – think extreme heat, red clay soil and schlepping around ancient monuments.

Relaxed by the hotel pool which had a large group of pale Russians chatting up a storm in the pool.  Then packed up and were taken to Siem Reap airport for our flight to Dehli – via Bangkok.  First flight on Bangkok Air was an hour on a turbo prop, easy flight. Then we had a 3 hour layover in Bangkok, wandered about, ate etc.  Boarded the Jet Airways flight.  A 737 plane but with more seats crammed in than the cheapest charter flight you can imagine.  Four and a half hours of being squashed, particularly John who had no where to put his knees, the temperature was way too warm, one of the cabin crew split water all over John, the call bell was going off continuously somewhere on the plane and everyone was noisy and moving around. One of the worst flight experiences we have had to date.

We arrived in New Delhi around 2 am (our time clock), met by our driver and arrived at the hotel at almost 3am, exhausted only to find that the so called 5* hotel is barely a 3*, and we had to look at 3 rooms before we settle on one that didn’t smell bad! Opulent general areas, bar, lobby etc.,, but the rooms were grubby and badly in need of decoration and a proper clean. Oh, the joys of travel!
